IMAGINE... a place where a girl in a wheelchair can swing, slide and chase her able-bodied brother... where a boy who cannot see can delight in making music... where the parents of a severely disabled child can know the simple joy of taking their child to the playground... where a child with disabilities no longer suffers isolation but feels truly integrated with able-bodied children.
Shane’s Inspiration builds these magical places... Universally Accessible Playgrounds... for all our children.
5K/10K Walk-FUN-Roll
In addition to Dr. Heimberg sitting on Shane’s Board of Directors, for the last three years the Heimberg Law Group has been a Title Sponsor of this nonprofit’s 5K/10K Walk-FUN-Roll at Griffith Park.
More than 500 able-bodied children and children with disabilities, and their families and friends, turn out for fun and to raise money for Shane’s programs. More than 370,000 children and their siblings come to CHLA each year. For siblings it means hours of waiting; for children who are ill, injured or disabled, it means physical discomfort, traumatic procedures and feeling “different.” |

When Shane’s Inspiration came to Dr. Heimberg to head up a committee to raise the funds needed to build to play areas at CHLA, he couldn’t say no. He saw the opportunity to support Shane’s efforts to give ill and disabled children a chance to feel “normal,” while able-bodied and well children would be able to run and play and to learn to play with children with disabilities as just another kid.
Dr. Heimberg and the CHLA Committee are committed to raising $1.5 million to build two play areas:
- An outdoor area will give the children the chance to roll, laugh and shout. It will give families a place to happily spend the long hours of waiting. It will provide a spot of normalcy in an otherwise overwhelming hospital setting.
- An indoor area will transform CHLA’s Division of Rehabilitative Medicine, with its big scary name, into an enchanting environment — filled with the sights and sounds of nature — with the latest in therapeutic equipment.
These play areas will be created by Shane’s Inspiration, the nation’s leader in developing fully accessible playgrounds, in conjunction with some of the country’s leading rehabilitative and therapeutic experts.
